Instructions for Zooming with Virtual MusiCamp

Thanks for registering for our online workshop! It’s exciting for us to try and offer music workshops online. That being said, please bear in mind there may be technical challenges in these early days of adapting to online teaching. I have tried as best I can to provide instructions below. Please feel free to reach out (MusiCampTO@gmail.com) in case you have any questions or run into any complications.
The link for the ZOOM meeting was provided to you in an email. A password is not needed if you use the link. Please do not share the link with others.

THERE ARE 4 THINGS YOU SHOULD REVIEW BEFORE THE SESSION

1) INSTALLING ZOOM (see below)
2) HOW TO ENTER A MEETING WITH ZOOM (see below)
3) SET UP YOUR MICROPHONE (see below)
4) USE A HEADSET or GOOD SPEAKERS – it helps you stay in time!

1) INSTALL ZOOM FOR THE MEETINGS.
First install ZOOM. Either go the ap store on your device or on a computer, go to https://www.zoom.us/download and download ZOOM. Once the download is complete click the file (either an .exe or .dmg) and follow the instructions for installing. Also please note – never update ZOOM from an email. Always go to the ap store or the website listed above.

2) ENTERING A MEETING WITH ZOOM:
When you click on the meeting link I have provided from your email, a new browser window will open.
A pop up box or message within the window will ask if you want to open ZOOM.US – click OK.
ZOOM will open and ask you to JOIN WITH COMPUTER AUDIO, click OK!
If you are in the waiting room of the meeting, I will let you in as long as I recognize your email and/or user name. Once in, you can open your camera by clicking the small camera icon at the bottom left of the screen.

3) SET UP YOUR MIC FOR MUSIC RATHER THAN TALKING – the following is not as significant in the body percussion workshops as it is for composition or harmonized singing workshops, but I have listed it here in case you are interested.

FOR A COMPUTER
i) Click on the small upward arrow next to the microphone icon (bottom left of the screen). A menu pops up.
ii) At the bottom of this menu click AUDIO SETTINGS. A window pops up. At the bottom right of this window, click ADVANCED.
iii) Click the “Show in-meeting option to “Enable Original Sound” from microphone; click DISABLE for the first 2 lines in the box (Suppress Persistent Background Noise and Suppress Intermittent Background Noise.
iv) When you enter the Zoom meeting, choose computer audio, then look for a box at the top left that says “turn on original sound” and click it (so that it says “turn off original sound”).

FOR A MOBILE DEVICE
i) open zoom and click the settings cogwheel at the bottom of the screen (I believe bottom right on an iphone but bottom left of androids)
ii) click MEETINGS (this opens the meeting settings)
iii) scroll down to the bottom
iv) enable USE ORIGINAL SOUND
v) when entering a Zoom meeting, click on the three dots (usually at the bottom of the screen on a phone, may be at the top of a screen for a tablet)
vi) click ENABLE ORIGINAL SOUND
